Brentwood , CA : One Person was Hospitalized after Fatal Ambuland and Truck Crash near Balfour Road on Monday , December 22nd 2014
An ambulance en route to a fatal truck crash early Monday wound up involved in its own wreck, with one person was hospitalized, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The ambulance had been dispatched to a two-car crash on the Highway 4 bypass near Balfour Road, but instead collided with another car in the intersection of Walnut Boulevard and Balfour Road around 4:40 a.m., CHP spokesman Officer John Fransen said. The impact of the crash pushed the second vehicle into a third car, he said.
Other details of the crash were not available immediately, and the make and models of the vehicles were not released. A person in the ambulance complained of pain in the back and neck and was taken to Kaiser's Antioch Medical Center.
The ambulance was headed to a fatal crash on Highway 4, just east of the Balfour Road exit. That wreck killed 17-year-old Mario Castro, of Hughson, a city near Modesto. A 17-year-old female passenger with Castro was seriously injured but was going to survive, Fransen said.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in either crash, Fransen said.
