Wayne,OH : Wayne County crash claims 3-year-old pedestrian on November, Tuesday 28th 2017
A 3-year-old Wayne County girl, struck by a sport utility vehicle while running across a road to greet her father Tuesday afternoon, died while undergoing treatment at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Dora Miller was struck on Kansas Road in East Union Township at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday by a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 58-year-old Apple Creek man, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. The child was attempting to make it to the west side of of the 2200 block of Kansas Road (Township Road 179) to greet her father, according to state troopers.
“He was dropped off from work,” said Lt. Stephanie Norman of the Ohio Highway Patrol Wooster post. “He was dropped off on the opposing side the street. She just started out to greet him, and that is when she was struck.”
Dora was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital about five hours after the mishap. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was not injured. While the accident remains under investigation, Lt. Norman said there is no evidence the driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe committed any moving violations. The speed limit at the scene of the incident was 55 mph.
“We are approximating he was at the speed limit,” Norman said.
