Seatle ,WA : Bicyclist injured after Collision with car along Eastlake Avenue on Friday morning ,April 10th 2015
A bicyclist is recovering after a collision with a car Friday morning on Eastlake Avenue near Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
The cyclist is getting a ticket -- and the driver is not.
Seattle Police on the scene told KIRO 7 the cyclist grabbed a car’s side mirror to boost his speed up the hill.
The cyclist lost control and then ran into a car.
It sent him crashing to the ground, and one wheel went flying.
“Not smart to grab a car going up a hill,” said Bill Fuller who cycles that route daily. “This is the hardest hill going into downtown, but I can't imagine being tempted to do that.”
a Seattle police officer told the driver she’s not at fault at all.
She and her passenger did not want to go on camera.
Fuller worries what this will do to already tense relations between cyclists and drivers.
“It doesn't do good for people already mad at cyclists,” said Fuller. “This kind of stuff doesn't help. This is a good town to ride a bike in, but people get annoyed.”
KIRO 7 talked to a paramedic and the officer on scene.
They indicated the cyclist was not seriously hurt. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
“I hope he's better,” said Fuller. “And I hope no one tries that again.”
