Nashville, TN : Man dead after car strikes retaining wall on I-40 downtown Nashville on Monday afternoon, September 1, 2014

A man died early Monday afternoon after a serious crash on the on-ramp of Interstate 40 East from Broadway in downtown Nashville. Police said a witness reported seeing 34-year-old Phillip Ford, of Brentwood, attempt to change lanes upon entering the highway around 1:55 p.m. Ford's Toyota Camry sideswiped a tractor trailer in the process, leading him to swerve back to the right and lose control. His vehicle struck the rock retaining wall head-on. Ford, who was on his way home from work at the time of the crash, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. Police said the tractor trailer did not stop. Information about the truck or its driver is not known at this time. There was no evidence Ford was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
