Berkeley, CA : 1 dead, 1 in critical condition after 3-car collision on Haste Street on Friday, 31st May 2019
Three vehicles collided Friday evening on Haste Street, killing one woman and sending another into critical condition, according to an email from Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White.
The collision, which occurred on the 2200 block of Haste Street, according to White, occurred when a Tesla containing five people struck a Ford Fiesta containing four and a Dodge pickup containing two. The Ford was pushed into two parked vehicles and caught fire, temporarily trapping two rear passengers, according to White.
All four occupants of the Ford were transported to a hospital, according to White. One died after being transported, and another is currently in critical condition. One of the passengers of the Tesla was also taken to a hospital.
The driver of the Tesla was a 22-year-old San Leandro man, according to White, who said the man is cooperating with investigators. According to White, BPD does not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. “We do believe, however, that speed was a factor in this collision,” White said in an email.
