Newbury Township, OH : Driver of reported stolen vehicle dies in Newbury Township crash on Sunday, 4th October, 2020

The intersection of Bass Lake Road and Route 87 in Newbury Township was closed the morning of Oct. 4 following a fatal crash, authorities say.

A Lexus SUV stolen in Russell Township was spotted traveling eastbound on Route 87 near Punderson State Park by a Geauga County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle was said to be going 103 mph, the sheriff said in a Facebook post.

The deputy turned to pursue the vehicle and witnessed it go off the left side of the roadway while trying to pass other cars in the area of Bass Lake Road, officials said.

The vehicle flipped several times and the 25-year-old driver was ejected, according to the post. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
