ALLEGHANY COUNTY, VA : US-220 shut down due to tractor-trailer crash in Alleghany on Wednesday, 31st January 2024

A tractor-trailer driver was taken to the hospital after a crash in Alleghany County on Jan. 31.

Iron Gate Volunteer Fire and Rescue says that just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, crews were called to the wreck on US-220, near the Market area.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the truck hit a utility pole, near 7th Street, prompting the east and west lanes to shut down for more than two hours.

Details are still limited about what led to the crash, but firefighters said the driver was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
