Austin, TX : LBJ High School mourns loss of football player killed in auto-pedestrian crash on Saturday night, November 8, 2014

The LBJ High School community is mourning the loss of a football player who was struck by a car and killed over the weekend. Austin police say a car was traveling southbound Saturday night in the 6900 block of Ed Bluestein Blvd. At the same time, 18-year-old Jermaine Dillard was attempting to cross the highway underneath the pedestrian bridge. The car struck Dillard and he died at the scene. His football coach Andrew Jackson tells FOX 7 that he was meeting his sister at the bus stop so she wouldn't have to walk home alone. He says he was truly a great person. "Come to us from out of state from Washington, the St. Louis area, but we called them Seattle because he was from Washington. He got here in June and started working out with us this summer. He was just a great team player. He impacted me because he was just one of those kids that always asked, Coach whatever you need me to do I'll do it, I just want to play," he said. Coach Jackson says they will be bringing Dillard's football helmet and shoes on the field with them at their game this Saturday. This is Austin's 47th fatal traffic crash and the 54th fatality this year. Source : LBJ High School mourns loss of football player killed in auto-pedestrian crash
