Vernonia, OR : Two dead after pickup trucks crash, catch on fire south of Vernonia on Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Two people are dead after their pickup trucks collided and caught on fire south of Vernonia, Oregon State Police officials said Wednesday afternoon.

The drivers of the two Ford pickups crashed nearly head-on on Highway 47, a state police spokesman said in a news release. When police got to the crash near milepost 69, both trucks were engulfed in flames. Both drivers died. There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.

Police ask that any witnesses contact the Oregon State Police Dispatch Center at 503-375-3555.

The road is closed until further notice. The Oregon Department of Transportation is setting up a detour.
