Phoenix, AZ : Motorcyclist in extremely critical condition after crash in central Phoenix on Friday, 23rd August 2019

A motorcyclist was taken to a hospital Friday in extremely critical condition following a collision in central Phoenix, police said.

The 38-year-old man was traveling west on Thomas Road about 12:40 p.m. on a 2000 Suzuki motorcycle when it ran into the rear of a 2015 Toyota Corolla near Eighth Street.

The Toyota Corolla, also traveling west on Thomas Road, had stopped in a curb lane prior to the collision because of backed-up traffic at a red light at Seventh Street, Phoenix police said.

The 57-year-old woman driving the vehicle was not injured, police said.

After the crash, the motorcycle was "redirected" onto private property belonging to the Phoenix Country Club, police said.

Thomas Road was blocked to traffic in both directions after the crash.
