Anniston, AL : Infant dies after car crashes into Coosa River near Ragland on Saturday night, JULY 23, 2016

A 1-year-old was killed Saturday night near Ragland after the vehicle the child was in crashed into the Coosa River, State Troopers said Sunday.

Tara Beth Ray, 35 of Sylacauga, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry on Woods Bend Road when the vehicle “left the roadway and became submerged in the Coosa River” at 9:57 p.m., State Trooper Chuck Daniel said in a news release.

Ray and another adult passenger, who Daniel did not name, escaped from the car while the child, whose name was also not released, was trapped inside. There were no other injuries, Daniel said.

The accident remained under investigation Sunday, Daniel said.
