Milwaukee,WI : One person injured in serious car crash Monday morning August 10th 2015
An Oconomowoc man was in serious crash Monday morning in Milwaukee because of a missing stop sign.
WISN 12 News reporter Hillary Mintz investigates why the sign was never replaced.
Michael Quinones has a broken collar bone following a car accident around 6 a.m. near Fairmount Avenue and Hopkins Street.
“(I) just kept going through because there was no stop sign. Next thing I know, I completely crashed, just felt like I got completely pushed. It was really intense,” Quinones said.
Quinones said considering how bad the cars looked, it could have been much worse.
“There could've been a car full of kids. I had my seat belt on, which was really lucky,” Quinones said.
Quinones wasn't given a ticket for this accident because he said police ruled it no fault because there was no stop sign to obey.
A witness who took this cellphone video about two weeks ago of the crash that took out the stop sign, which was never replaced.
Quinones is angry the city didn't take action sooner.
“You'd think first thing after an accident, you know make sure everyone's OK, get them to the hospital. And the next thing should be to make sure there's not another accident,” Quinones said.
Neighbors agree. The Department of Public Works told WISN 12 News if no one, including police, reports a missing sign to them, they don't always know about it.
