LAKELAND, FL : A single-vehicle crash involving a power pole on April, Monday 17th 2017
A Lakeland man is in critical condition after being injured in a single-vehicle crash involving a power pole Friday evening, according to the Police Department.
Sean Nicholas Soden, 19, was headed northbound on East Lake Parker Avenue in a 2007 Nissan Altima before 7 p.m. Friday, exiting the S-curves, the LPD said in a news release. At one point, Soden’s car left the roadway and traveled onto the grass on the east shoulder — causing the vehicle to rotate and lose control, police said.
Police said Soden’s vehicle re-entered the roadway and swerved across two travel lanes before striking a concrete power pole located at 4000 East Lake Parker Drive. The car hit the pole on the passenger side and began rotating in a clockwise direction before coming to a stop, the release said.Personnel from the LPD, the Lakeland Fire Department and Polk Fire Rescue all arrived and began administering lifesaving procedures. Soden was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. He was later airlifted to Tampa General Hospital for additional treatment, the LPD said.
The roadway was shut down for about three hours following the crash Friday, police said. The preliminary investigation lists excessive speed as a factor in the crash.
