Brevard County, FL : Brevard mom had kids in car during DUI crash on Monday, December 22, 2014

A teenager was hospitalized after being struck by a driver who was allegedly drunk along a Brevard County road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the teenager was walking in the middle of the westbound lanes of State Road 520 near Banana River Boulevard when she was struck by an SUV just after 6 p.m. on Monday. Troopers identified the teen as 17-year-old Sharon Kirk, who is in serious condition.

The driver, 32-year-old Sally Quirk of Rockledge, fled the scene, ran a red light and then crashed into two other vehicles down the street, troopers said.

Troopers said Quirk’s two young daughters, ages 4 and 5, were also in the SUV at the time of the crash. They were taken to Cape Canaveral Hospital; one of the girls with serious injuries and the other with minor injuries, troopers said.

The suspect was seen undergoing a field sobriety test after the second crash on S.R. 520. Troopers said her blood alcohol level was .232, which is nearly three times the legal limit.

Quirk was arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, running a red light and child endangerment. Her children were placed in the custody of other family members, according to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
