According to an obituary, Retha “Norene” Schmidt Burkitt, 77, died on May 28, five days after she was involved in a two-vehicle crash at Missouri D and East 215th Street in Cass County. Burkitt, of Cleveland, was one of three passengers inside a 1995 Plymouth Voyager driven by 78-year-old James S. Kinney on the night of May 23. One of the passengers, 76-year-old Deanna M. Kinney, was pronounced dead on the night of the accident shortly after being taken to Belton Regional Medical Center.

Burkitt was taken to Research Medical Hospital where she died later of her injuries.

The driver of the truck was taken to Research Medical Hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries.
