Charlotte, NC : Woman was dead when her car crashed into a tree near Kelly Road on Sunday afternoon September 7th 2014

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say a woman was killed when her car crashed into a tree near the 3500 block of Kelly Road. It happened Sunday around 3 p.m. Melanie Felts drove her Volvo 850 off the right side of the road sideswiping a tree, hitting a mailbox and finally crashing into a tree head-on. The car caught fire after it collided with the tree. MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced Ms. Felts dead on the scene due to injuries she sustained during the crash. Police say speed was a factor for the crash. It is unknown if alcohol use was a factor. This crash is under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Source : One dead after car collides with tree
