NEAR MALTBY, WA : 2 dead, 2 injured in crash on Highway 522 on June 16th 2014
Two people died and two others were injured Monday in a two-car crash on SR 522 east of Fales Road near Maltby in Snohomish County.
The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. According to Washington State Patrol, witnesses say a Mitsubishi Eclipse drifted onto the right shoulder of the road and hit a construction barrel, crossing the centerline and colliding into a Ford Fusion in the oncoming lane.
The Eclipse had a male driver and a female child in a carseat in the back seat; the Ford had a male driver and a female passenger.
The female passenger of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; the driver of the Ford later died at the hospital. The surviving victims remain in critical condition.
SR 522 was closed in several directions for several hours; it re-opened around 6:45 p.m.
Investigators are determining the cause of the crash.
