Prineville,OR : Driver dies in crash, four passengers survive on June, Wednesday 21th 2017
The driver of a car that veered off the road and into a tree died Wednesday on U.S. Highway 26 between Prineville and Madras, according to Oregon State Police.
Another motorist was able to help a woman and three minor children out of the car before it caught fire. The woman was flown to an unidentified Bend hospital while the children were taken to Madras with minor injuries, according to state police.
The crash, happened just before 5 p.m. near milepost 11, started a grass fire along the highway.
The driver who died was traveling west when he veered off the road and hit a tree in a ditch.
Eight crews from the Bureau of Land Management were sent to fight the fire.
