Ionia County, MI : 11-year-old boy injured after dirt bike-car accident in Orleans Township on Saturday night, April 30, 2016
An 11-year-old Orleans Township boy was hospitalized Saturday night after he turned a dirt bike into the path of a car.
The accident occurred in the rain at 10:56 p.m. on Johnson Road, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office. The boy was traveling southbound when he attempted to turn into a driveway, and in doing so, turned into the path of a Pontiac car also traveling southbound.
The boy was wearing a helmet. However, the dirt bike had no lights for riding in the dark.
The child was hospitalized with non-life threatening, but serious injuries and was taken to the Helen Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, according to the ICSO. The car was driven by a 68-year-old Greenville man who was not injured in the accident.
Ionia County Undersheriff Charlie Noll said Sunday morning the Greenville man is not expected to face any charges resulting from the accident.
Life EMS Ambulance and Orleans Township first responders also assisted at the scene of the accident.
