Lake Charles, LA : A Lake Charles man died in a rollover crash on May, Sunday, 14th 2017
A Lake Charles man died Sunday night in a rollover crash, authorities said.
Louisiana State Police Sgt. James Anderson said troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, about 3 miles east of Iowa in Jefferson Davis Parish.
Anderson said the preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 Ford pickup truck was traveling east on I-10 when one of its tires failed.
The driver, Randal Karl Stewart, 59, over-corrected and ran off of the highway causing the pickup to roll over onto its roof and come to rest on the south service road, Anderson said.
Despite wearing a seat belt, Stewart was critically injured and transported to a Jennings hospital where he was pronounced dead. A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated nine fatal crashes resulting in 12 deaths in 2017.
