Pickens, S.C : 56-year-old driver dies in head-on collision with tractor-trailer on Highway 183 in Pickens County on Monday morning, February 1, 2016

A man died Monday morning in a crash on Highway 183 in Pickens County, according to Coroner Kandy Kelley.

Kelly identified the man as Daniel E. Epps, 56, of Nine Times Road in Pickens.

The accident was reported at 6:25 a.m. at the intersection of Ireland Drive at SC Highway 183.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer hit a 1986 GMC pickup truck head-on.

Troopers said the tractor-trailer drove left of center to avoid a car waiting to turn left onto Ireland Drive.

Epps died at the scene from blunt force-trauma, according to Kelley.

He was not wearing a seat belt, she said.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured, troopers said.

There was no immediate word on charges.
