Lakeland, FL : 48-year-old woman struck, killed by semitruck in Lakeland on Thursday night, December 17, 2015

A 48-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a semitruck in Lakeland late Thursday night.

According to Lakeland police, officers were called to the scene where the woman's body was lying in the road, off New Tampa Highway at Airport Road, around 11:45 p.m.

The investigation revealed that the semitruck was heading west on the highway, and when it entered the intersection of Airport Road, the driver felt he hit something. The driver pulled over and noticed minor damage to the truck, but he couldn't determine what caused the damage and continued westbound to complete his delivery, authorities said.

With the help of a witness at the scene, officers found the driver, identified as Ferdinand Senatus, 57, of Lakeland, at his delivery destination. Senatus was interviewed and released, and no charges have been filed.

The deceased woman was identified as Tina H. Marshall, of Lakeland.

The highway was shut down for about four hours during the investigation.
