Loveland, CO : One person died in crash involving 5 vehicles on U.S. Highway 287 and Colorado Highway 402 on Wednesday, Sep 9, 2015

A woman died Wednesday in a car crash in south Loveland that sent three others to the hospital and involved five vehicles.

Emergency crews responded to the rollover accident around 10:30 a.m. at U.S. 287 and Colo. 402.

According to witnesses, four vehicles were stopped at the stoplight on Colo. 402 heading west and the light had just turned green.

Witnesses said the victim, who had not been identified by press time, was driving a 1998 Infiniti QX4 that caused the crash. According to Sgt. Mike Halloran, a Loveland Police Department spokesman, the Infiniti rear-ended a 2006 Acura MDX with three occupants, and the Acura was pushed into a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali driven by David Bowen, 59, of Loveland. That was pushed into a 2008 Suzuki XL7 driven by Eileen Heusinkveld, 61, of Loveland, which was pushed into a 2003 Dodge Ram driven by Steven Krill, 39, Fort Collins.

Police said the victim was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The occupants of the other vehicles were using seat belts. Two women and one child in the Acura were taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

A witness, Neil Martin, said he had stopped at the light on southbound U.S. 287 and saw the white car approaching the intersection swiftly. He said the car started to move into the turn lane to head south, then jerked back to the right into the westbound lane.

Krill said in his rearview mirror he saw the Infiniti hit the fourth car and roll, so he punched the gas and was only tapped by the car behind him.

He got out of his vehicle to assist the two women and child in the Acura, who were all trapped inside.

"The baby was fine, just all shook up," he said. He and several others wrenched open the doors to assist the women and went in through the front window to get the child out.

The westbound lanes of Colo. 402 between St. Louis Avenue and U.S. 287 were closed for around three hours for an on-scene investigation.

Officials say that neither drug nor alcohol impairment are considered contributing factors to the crash.
