Slippery Rock Township, PA : Five injured in nine-vehicle crash on Route 422 on Wednesday, 28th November 2018

Two dozen people and nine vehicles were involved in Wednesday night’s crash that closed several miles of Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township for hours.

Five of those people were hurt, state police said, three seriously. Flown by StatMedevac helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown with what police called “life-threatening injuries” were Brandon R, Vanscoy, 26, of New Castle; Deborah J. Martell, 67, of New Castle; and Maura H. Criscito, 64, of New Castle.

James V. McKinley, 63, of Dilltown and Michael Sleigher, 44, of Rimersburg, sustained minor injuries, police said, and neither was transported to a hospital.

According to state police, the accident occurred at 4:50 p.m. as McKinley, who was westbound in an International Harvester tractor-trailer, failed to stop for traffic that had been halted by the traffic light at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388. McKinley collided with the rear of Vanscoy’s 2009 Ford F150, starting a chain reaction involving the next five stopped vehicles.
