Clarksburg, CA : 34-year-old Sacramento man died in head-on crash on South River Road on Tuesday morning, April 5, 2016

A 34-year-old Sacramento man died Tuesday morning on South River Road between West Sacramento and Clarksburg after running head-on into an oncoming vehicle.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Sacramento man was driving a 2000 Honda south on South River Road just south of Babel Slough Road at an unknown speed around 7:31 a.m., at the same time 55-year-old Bret Kimbro, of Elk Grove, was traveling north on the same road at about 45 mph in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup.

For a still unknown reason, the Sacramento man crossed the double yellow center divider lines into the northbound traffic lane and hit the front end of th Chevrolet and was killed.

Kimbro was trapped in his vehicle for a time, until emergency officials could extricate him.

The name of the person killed in the accident is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

It does not appear that either alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, according to the CHP, which is continuing its investigation.
