Antioch,TN : Police identified man killed in fiery crash in Antioch on May, Sunday 13th 2018
Metro Police have confirmed that Jamarquez Rakeem Owens, 20, of Smyrna, was the man killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
The crash happened near the 1100 block of Bell Road in Antioch.
Several lanes were closed for hours while emergency crews tried to figure out what happened on Bell Road near Interstate 24 just after 4 a.m.
Officials on the scene told News4 the driver of a 2008 Nissan Sentra veered off the roadway and hit a utility pole, which caused the car to catch fire. The man was not wearing a seat belt, but officials said there was no evidence that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the Sentra did not belong to Owens. It was reported stolen from a market on Haywood Lane. The owner, a 49-year-old man, did not report the vehicle stolen until after the crash.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Owens was not positively identified until the Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy.
