Coos Bay, OR : Myrtle Point woman killed in Highway 42 collision on Thursday, 13th October 2016

HIGHWAY 42 — A 76-year-old Myrtle Point woman died as a result of injuries inflicted in a head-on vehicle collision on Highway 42 on Thursday afternoon.

Marjorie R. Sluder died and Horace A. Arnold, 76, also of Myrtle Point, received non-life-threatening injuries from the collision, which occurred at 4:45 p.m. near milepost 29 on Highway 42. The Oregon State Police investigated and found that the driver of a 2001 Dodge Durango, 31-year-old Christopher R. Walker of Myrtle Point, was traveling east when he made a pass in a no-passing lane, colliding head-on with a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Arnold.

Walker was uninjured in the collision.

Both Arnold and Sluder were taken to Coquille Valley Hospital, where Sluder later died of her injuries.

The Oregon State Police are handling the collision as an ongoing criminal investigation.
