GAYLORD, MI : Gaylord man arrested following fatal traffic crash on Thursday, 17th September, 2020

A Gaylord man is facing multiple criminal charges stemming from a traffic crash that claimed the life of a Vanderbilt woman early Thursday

According to a Michigan State Police news release issued around 10 a.m. Thursday, troopers from the Gaylord post were called to the crash on Whitmarsh Road near Peanut Hill Road in Corwith Township shortly after midnight.

Police said troopers arrived to find a 2006 Ford Explorer off the roadway and a woman deceased in the front passenger area of the vehicle.

The deceased woman was later identified as Brittany June Poirier, 22 from Vanderbilt. Police said they determined Poirier was not the driver of the vehicle.

In the release, police said the investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Gaylord man who was located at his residence. Police said the man had visible injuries and blood on his clothes and body when troopers contacted him. He was interviewed and arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated causing death, driving while license suspended causing death, leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
