Columbus, GA : Two young brothers killed in Harris County crash early Monday, August 22, 2016
Two young Columbus brothers died early Monday after the vehicle they were traveling in with their family and a family friend crashed in Cataula, Ga., Harris County Coroner Joe Weldon said.
Reese Road Elementary students Richard Farrell, 8, and John Farrell, 7, were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:50 a.m. Their bodies will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta for autopsies.
Weldon said the boys were riding in a vehicle with their father, 4-year-old brother and a family friend when it crossed Highway 315 and crashed in the woods around 12:30 a.m. The family friend was treated at the scene and released, but the surviving occupants were admitted to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus with non-life-threatening injuries.
Everyone had the proper restraint at the time of the wreck at the intersection of Highway 315 and Hamilton Mulberry Grove Road, Weldon said.
The cause of the crash is still unclear at this time.
