Inverness, FL : Two teens in critical condition after a car collided with the bicycle in Citrus County on Saturday evening, March 5, 2016

One of the two teens who was hit by a car while riding a bike Sunday died as a result of injuries Monday evening, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Katelyn Zimmerman, 14, was cycling with her 13-year-old brother, Dylan Zimmerman, on the same bike, northbound on the right side of North Independence Highway near Forest Drive when a driver hit the teens.

The driver, Brandon Woodard, 40, of Inverness, was charged with driving under the influence; however, drunk driving was not the cause of the accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Woodard was driving a 2006 Chevy Suburban on North Independence Highway, approaching the teenagers from behind. As he crossed the centerline of the road overtaking them, the teens made a sharp left turn in front of Woodard’s Suburban, according to FHP.
