A Parks Highway collision has left one person dead and a least one person seriously injured, at approximately 3:42 p.m., on Wednesday, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers say the two-vehicle collision occurred near mile 53, near the intersection of Hawk.

According to AST information officer Megan Peters, a LifeMed Alaska helicopter request has been launched; however, "weather may not cooperate."

Additionally, Peters says that neither victim identities, nor vehicle descriptions, are available at this time.

"This is very new, and it will take some time for everyone on scene to be taken care of, and then for the scene investigation to occur," she says.

Currently, the highway has been shut down for an "undetermined" amount of time, says AST. First responders and emergency vehicles are at the scene.
