Fort Lauderdale, FL : One critically hurt in crash that shut down portion of Interstate 595 in Davie on Saturday, 20th August, 2016
24-year-old woman was critically injured in a crash that closed all westbound lanes of Interstate 595 at Flamingo Road early Saturday in Davie, authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene at 6:35 a.m. The crash happened as a 2013 Mazda3 and a 2013 Chevy Tahoe were heading west on I-595.
The front of the Mazda, driven by Jessica Walisch of Sunrise, struck the rear of the SUV, authorities said. The impact caused the Mazda to roll over several times, ejecting Walisch, who was not wearing a seat belt, investigators said.
The SUV spun around across all the interstate's lanes, but its driver, Adolfo Escalante, 66, of Fort Lauderdale, was not hurt, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Walisch was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.
The interstate's westbound lanes reopened after almost four hours. The crash remains under investigation.
