BARTOW, FL : 2 Polk motorcyclists severely injured in New Year's Day crash on Tuesday, 1st January 2019

Two people riding a motorcycle suffered serious injuries after the driver overshot a sharp turn and hit a vehicle.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Polk County Fire and EMS responded to the crash at Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road in Bartow around 4 p.m. on Jan. 1.
The driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, Warren Reichel, 68, of Winter Haven, and Barbara Smith, 78, of Winter Haven, were taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center with serious leg injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Carolyn Henry, 50, the driver of the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis hit by Reichel, was unharmed.
According to reports, Reichel was traveling west on Old Bartow Eagle Lake Road in Bartow, and hit the eastbound Mercury.
After skidding about 15 feet, the motorcycle came to rest on the roadway’s grassy shoulder.
Other motorists stopped to help pull Reichel and Smith away from the motorcycle, which had caught fire.
