Milwaukee, WI : Passenger, 18, dies after crash involving stolen minivan, police car on W. Manitoba St. near S. 6th St., on Sunday, Nov 1, 2015

An 18-year-old man who was a passenger in a stolen minivan that sideswiped a police patrol car has died, according to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office.

The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday on W. Manitoba St. near S. 6th St., and the man was thrown from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was identified Monday afternoon as Rashad T. Higgins of Milwaukee.

Officers were responding to a report of a garage burglary near S. 1st and W. Norwich streets when five teens, who police believe may have been responsible for the nearby burglary, got into a stolen 2003 Chrysler minivan and sideswiped a patrol car, police said.

The van then crashed into a pole and four of the five occupants — a 15-year-old, two 16-year-olds and an 18-year-old — ran from the vehicle but were taken into custody, according to a news release.

Police have said the investigation is ongoing.
