New York, NY : Drag racing suspected in I-95 car crash that left eight injured on Sunday, 10th February 2019
ops arrested two drivers after eight people were injured, one critically, in a suspected drag-racing-related wreck on the New England Thruway Sunday evening, cops said.
The multi-vehicle smashup happened shortly after 7p.m. on I-95 northbound by Exit 11 — when two BMW’s traveling at a high rate of speed collided with two other vehicles — according to law enforcement sources.
One of the eight victims was the driver of a Kia — also traveling northbound — which was rear-ended by one of the speeding BMW’s. The victim’s car then struck a Honda SUV, which in turn hit the other speeding Beemer, according to cops.
The driver of the Kia was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition – seven other people were injured and also transported to area hospitals, according to police and fire department officials.
An on-duty marked MTA police K-9 unit happened to be driving past the wreck and secured the scene until police arrived, preventing the two drivers from fleeing the scene, law enforcement sources said.
