Lancaster County, SC : 1-year-old girl hit, killed by car in Lancaster County on Saturday, October 4, 2014
Lancaster, South Carolina
A young girl was killed in Lancaster County on Saturday after being hit by a car, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
A 1-year-old girl reportedly walked into the path of a 1999 Nissan Infiniti as it was driving in reverse and was struck by the rear of the car. Troopers say the accident happened around 1:24 p.m. on a private drive approximately 3 miles south of Lancaster, although no street address was released.
The girl was initially taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Springs Memorial Hospital, said Lance Cpl. Tony Keller with the Highway Patrol. Because of the extent of the girl's injuries, she was later airlifted to a Charlotte hospital where she died.
The name of the girl has not been released. Because the child died in Charlotte, Lancaster County Coroner Mike Morris said Sunday his office has not yet received the case from the Mecklenburg medical examiner's office. The examiner handling the case was not available Sunday.
Troopers say the man driving the car is 64 years old. Keller said the Highway Patrol has concluded its investigation of the collision and classed it as an accident.
