Lakeland, FL : Passenger killed in single-car accident on February, Sunday 11th 2018
A Plant City man riding in a pickup was killed Sunday after the vehicle overturned.
According to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins, Steven Darrell Driggers, 34, was the passenger in a 2007 Ford F150 driven by Seth Danis David, 33, of Valrico. David was reportedly driving in the outside lane traveling west on Interstate 4, east of Mango Road, when he tried to change lanes at about 7:45 p.m. Gaskins said another vehicle was in that lane and David tried to avoid hitting it, causing his truck to rotate and go onto the outside shoulder of the interstate.
Gaskins said David’s vehicle overturned “multiple times,” first hitting a fence on the north side of the interstate shoulder and then a light post in the parking lot of Gator Ford, 11780 Tampa Gateway Blvd., before coming to a stop. Driggers was ejected from the pickup and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither of the men was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the FHP.
