Joplin, MO : Area wrecks injure 11 on Friday, March 24th 2017
Five people were hurt in a three-car accident at 4:35 p.m. Friday on Gateway Drive, 4 miles south of Joplin in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The patrol said one northbound vehicle, driven by Kristen O. Tyler, 21, of Neosho, slid into another northbound vehicle, driven by Margaret E. Wunderlin, 61, of Joplin. The collision caused Wunderlin's vehicle to travel into the southbound lane and hit a vehicle driven by Roger A. Cornell, 49, of Rogers, Arkansas, the patrol said.
Tyler, along with two occupants in her car, Charlee J. Johnson, 24, of Neosho, and Jessica R. Johnson, 25, of Neosho, all suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Freeman West Hospital by EMS, the patrol said. Wunderlin also suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Freeman West Hospital by EMS. Cornell suffered minor injuries and was transported to Freeman West Hospital, the patrol said.
• Five people were injured in a two-car accident at 4:40 p.m. Friday on U.S. 54, a mile east of Deerfield in Vernon County, according to the patrol.
An eastbound vehicle driven by Brandon L. King, 21, of Nevada, crossed the center line during heavy rain and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Melvin S. Swopes, 89, of El Dorado Springs.
King and two occupants in his vehicle, Christopher K. Despain, 35, of Nevada, and Crystal G. King, 41, of Nevada, all suffered serious injuries, the patrol said. Despain was taken to Freeman West Hospital by ambulance, and both Crystal King and Brandon King were taken to Nevada Regional Medical Center by ambulance, the patrol said. Swopes and a passenger in his vehicle, Ricky D. Swopes, 65, of Nevada, both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Nevada Regional Hospital by ambulance, the patrol said.
• A Neosho resident was hurt in a single-vehicle accident at 1:20 a.m. Friday on Missouri Highway 86, 2 miles south of Redings Mill in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The patrol said a vehicle, driven by Kristen L. Colvin, 21, of Neosho, ran off the road, hit a culvert and overturned.
Colvin suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance.
