The Frederick County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify a young woman who died early this morning after being struck by a car in Woodsboro.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 6:23 a.m. to Md. 194 (Woodsboro Pike) and Md. 550 (Woodsboro Road), where a Volkswagen Jetta struck the woman in the southbound lane of Woodsboro Pike, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Deputies believe the woman was standing or walking on Woodsboro Pike and wearing dark clothing in foggy weather, the release says. She is described as white, between 18-25 years old, about 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 90-100 pounds. She had light brown hair and was wearing light or tan khaki pants, a dark brown zipper jacket, a green sleeveless cotton shirt and black shoes with purple laces.
The driver of the Volkswagen, William J. Beacom, of Detour, stopped and called 911 to report the collision, the release says. Beacom was not impaired by drugs or alcohol and was not speeding, the release says. He was not injured.
Woodsboro Pike was closed during the investigation. The Maryland Coordinated Highways Action Response Team assisted the sheriff's office.
