North Lauderdale, Florida
Police are investigating after a five-car collision claimed the life of a 4-year-old in North Lauderdale, Friday night.
Broward Sheriff's Deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene in the northbound lanes of Rock Island Road, near Tam Oshanter Boulevard.
Deputies said car carrying the child spun out of control, smashed into a barrier and then crashed into a third vehicle. "We understand that when the vehicle spun out, the juvenile was ejected from the vehicle and was thus pronounced dead here on the scene," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokesperson Keyla Concepcion. "The female driver had non-life threatening injuries and was transferred to University Hospital."
An additional passenger from another vehicle was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
Detectives are still investigating, but they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
