CHICO, CA : Chico bike, vehicle collision on Highway 32, just west of West East Avenue on Wednesday, 1st January, 2020
A cyclist died after colliding with a vehicle Wednesday morning in west Chico, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Butte County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the cyclist as Casey Campbell, 39, of Chico.
The CHP received a call at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday about the collision that happened on Highway 32, just west of West East Avenue. Campbell sustained major injuries and was unresponsive at the scene. After CPR was administered, the cyclist was taken to Enloe Medical Center, but died shortly after.
The collision is under investigation, but the CHP said “initial evidence suggests that the cyclist crossed traffic and failed to yield to an approaching vehicle.”
The CHP noted this is the third bicycle collision to occur in the area in the past two days. One of the collisions was a solo cyclist with no vehicles involved. In the other incident, while still under investigation, initial evidence suggests the cyclist caused the collision.
