A 77-year-old man was airlifted to a Salt Lake City hospital after his SUV rolled over during a car crash Saturday in Marriott-Slaterville.
The crash occurred just before noon when a semitrailer on 500 South attempted to turn left and pulled in front of a northbound SUV on 4700 West, according to Sgt. Chad Allen of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the SUV swerved to avoid the semitrailer and clipped the vehicle, causing the SUV to roll, Allen said.
The SUV then came to rest on the driver’s side, pinning the driver in the vehicle. Allen said the driver was an elderly man who was unable to free himself from the vehicle. Responders had to remove the top of the SUV in order to free the driver, Allen said.Weber County Sheriff deputies and Weber Fire District personnel were dispatched to the scene at 12:01 p.m.
An Intermountain Life Flight crew was called to the scene of the accident, according to Weber County Dispatch. Allen said the SUV driver was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City as a precaution due to the man’s advanced age. The man was awake and alert when he was airlifted from the scene, and he was in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.
The driver of the semitrailer was not injured in the crash, and the semitrailer only sustained slight damage to the front bumper during the crash.
The crash closed 4700 West until around 4 p.m. Saturday.
