Crawfordsville, IN : Driver dies in crash near Wingate on Monday, March 13, 2017
One person was killed Monday after being ejected during a single-vehicle crash near Wingate.
Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies and Crawfordsville firefighters responded to the scene in the 3300 block of Old State Road 55 just before noon.
A 2002 Chevrolet truck left the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled in an open field, authorities said.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ryan Needham confirmed the driver in the crash had died. The name has not been released until family can be notified. The person was taken first to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville and later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, police said.
There were no passengers in the vehicle.
Indiana State Police are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities were kept busy working crashes and assisting motorists Monday, as snow showers made roadways hazardous. A winter weather advisory was in effect throughout the day.
