Bourne, MA : Six people injured following a head-on crash on Scenic Highway in Bourne on Friday night, March 4, 2016

Six people were injured following a head-on crash on Scenic Highway in Bourne Friday night. According to a Bourne police release, Bourne officers and Massachusetts State troopers responded to the scene east of the Bourne Scenic Park entrance around 5:23 p.m.
Officer requested several ambulances after discovering serious injury. Bourne Fire & Rescue declared a mass casualty incident upon arrival, according to the release. The Jaws of Life was requested to extricate victims.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that the the driver of a Toyota Camry was headed west at a speed "too great for the snowy, wet conditions". After rounding a bend, the Camry driver lost control of the car and drove into an oncoming Toyota Corolla.
The Camry driver and his four passengers are all from Sandwich and all are under 21. The driver of the Corolla, and only person in that car, is a 34-year-old man from Marshfield.
One of the passengers in the Camry fled the scene prior to officers arriving. He was located in a nearby housing development and transported to the hospital with minor injuries, the release said. The four other people in the Camry and the Corolla driver were all taken to area hospitals with serious but non life-threatening injuries. Two of the five were taken to area trauma centers.
According to police, speed, alcohol and weather conditions were all contributing factors. All five of the people in the Camry face minor in possession of alcohol and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle charges. The 18-year-old Camry driver has been charged with OUI-liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, minor transporting alcohol, failure to stay within marked lanes and speeding. That driver's name was not released.
Scenic Highway was reduced to one lane of traffic for one hour while the scene was investigated and cleared.
