Dallas, TX : Injured man abandoned after crashing motorcycle while racing in northwest Dallas, authorities say on Wednesday, November 16th 2016
An injured man was abandoned after crashing his motorcycle while racing another person in northwest Dallas overnight.
Authorities responded to the crash near the intersection of Stemmons Freeway and West Northwest Highway about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. The driver of a vehicle that had just exited Stemmons was at a stoplight and went when it turned green, Dallas County sheriff's spokeswoman Melinda Urbina said in an email.
But he suddenly heard the roar of the two racing motorcycles approaching and slowed down.
The drivers of one of the motorcycles attempted to brake by laying down the bike. He lost control and ended up underneath the vehicle.
The driver of the other motorcycle fled the scene, Urbina said.
Witness Londell Hayden told KDFW-TV (Channel 4) that he saw that person check on the victim, move his damaged bike into a parking lot and then leave.
"That's sad. That's heartless," Hayden said. "How could you leave your friend, man, you know what I'm saying? If you're on the scene of an accident, you can't leave and leave your partner."
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Urbina said.
An investigation is underway.
