Racine, WI : Bicyclist injured in crash near the John Bryant Community Center on Thursday night, September 15, 2016
A man riding a bicycle was injured Thursday night when his bike and an SUV crashed on 21st Street near the John Bryant Community Center, 601 21st St.
Racine police and firefighters responded to the incident, which occurred at about 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of 21st Street and Roosevelt Drive.
The bicyclist, identified in initial scanner reports as an approximately 65-year-old man, suffered a cut forehead and was taken from the scene via ambulance to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital, police said.
The extent of injuries was not known, police at the scene said.
A witness at the scene said the bicyclist was traveling west on the bicycle trail that runs along 21st Street and started to turn south onto Roosevelt when the bicycle veered into the road and crashed into a white Chevy SUV also heading south on Roosevelt.
A bike path runs along 21st Street, which separates the Bryant Center and the DeKoven Center property, then continues south along Roosevelt past the city wastewater treatment plant.
