Gainesville, FL : Mayo man, 35, dies in crash in Lafayette County Wednesday, February 22, 2017

A 35-year-old Mayo man died Wednesday afternoon in a traffic crash on U.S. 27 after swerving into the path of an empty log truck, the Florida Highway Patrol reported in a news release.

Brian Deltus Wallace, 35, of Mayo died in the crash, the news release said.

Troopers said Wallace was headed north on U.S. 27 near County Road 534 in Lafayette County Wednesday at 5:11 p.m. and the log truck was headed south, when Wallace pulled into the log truck's path.

The log truck driver, Johnny Leroy McGraw, 54, also of Mayo, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital with serious injuries, FHP reported.
