Maricopa, AZ : Man killed in SR 347 head-on crash on Thursday, April 21, 2016
The Arizona Department of Public Safety has released the name of a Phoenix man who was killed in a head-on crash on state Route 347.
DPS said Justin Lamon Clark, 34, was a passenger in a white Chevrolet that was heading south on SR 347 near Riggs Road shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday. The car crossed over the median and struck a northbound tow truck.
Clark was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the car, according to DPS. He died at the scene.
Investigators said the driver, Deanna Borboa, 26, of Maricopa, was not using a seat belt either. She suffered serious injuries.
"A major factor in the death and serious injury of the occupants of the white Chevrolet is the fact that they were not wearing their seat belts," said DPS Sgt. Alan Haywood of the Vehicular Crimes Unit.
The tow truck driver, identified as Jason Malone, 41, of Maricopa, was also injured.
DPS detectives are working to determine if impairment was a factor in the collision.
The highway was closed for more than seven hours due to the collision.
