Oroville, CA : Two injured in Highway 70 single-car crash on Saturday, January 28th 2017
A 21-year-old male driver and 1-year-old passenger were injured in a single-car crash on Highway 70 early Saturday morning.
Jacob Leon Aguilar Price, of Fairfield, was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, which was later reported stolen to the Marysville Police Department, southbound on Highway 70, south of Georgia Pacific Way and north of Ophir Road Saturday around 3:35 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
While Aguilar Price drove along Highway 70 at an unknown, but high rate of speed, the vehicle began to drift into the gravel portion of the center median, according to a California Highway Patrol press release. When he attempted to steer the car back onto the paved portion of the road, he lost control of the car and it began to skid across the southbound lanes and overturned.
Both the driver and passenger sustained injuries. Aguilar Price wore a seat belt, but his 1-year-old passenger was not in a child safety seat. The child, who was in the reclined passenger seat with a belt draped over him, was ejected from the car.
The boy sustained what authorities believed to be serious injuries and was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento via helicopter.
Aguilar Price was taken via ambulance to Oroville Hospital where he was admitted for treatment of his injuries and placed under arrest.
It is unknown whether he was using a cellphone, but police suspect alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
CHP is investigating the collision and several criminal charges, including auto theft, felony driving under the influence and felony child endangerment.
