NORWALK, CT : Cop can't make traffic stop before crash on Saturday, 5th November 2016
A police officer Saturday morning reported spotting a driver operating recklessly, but not being able to initiate a traffic stop in time to prevent a city teen from crashing into three parked cars.
According to his report, Officer Ramon Tejada was patrolling Connecticut Avenue at 1:20 a.m. when he noticed a Subaru being driven erratically.
Tejada said he began accelerating to catch up to the car, which turned onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. However, before reaching it, he said he observed it make a left turn at high speed onto Knapp Street, where it struck the three cars.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Luis Villalpando-Gutierrez, and his three passengers declined medical attention for their injuries, Tejada reported.
Villalpando-Gutierrez, of Lexington Avenue, was charged with operating without a driver's license, reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane, and making an improper signal for a turn.
He was held on $5,000 bond and given a court date of Nov. 15.
